Announcement: 2009-10 UPL Hoops: Delonte's Shooting Ability

Happily, our UPL league names are still tasteless. Our UPL Basketball draft has been set for Saturday, Oct. 24 at 10:30am, central time.

Additionally, I've also figured out how we're going to do this whole drafting thing for hoops. We're taking a cue from The League, and we're doing a draft lottery. And everyone's eligible for the first pick.

Top 3 draft positions go via lottery, and then the remaining slots (4 through 11) will go in reverse order of finish. Tiebreakers will be settled by reverse order of finish the prior UPL Basketball season, with the team finishing lower getting preference. If needed, further tiebreakers will look back at prior UPL Basketball seasons.

Here's how the lottery works. I've given each team a set number of "lottery tickets," each of which correspond to one of the 10,000 possible 4-digit combinations (i.e., 0000 through 9999). Each team received an allotment of numerical combinations, corresponding to their order of finish. Specifically, their final rank was divided by 66, and then multiplied by 10,000. Here's the number of "lottery tickets"

Team Rank "Tickets"
Phatsnapper 11 1666
Love T'Wolves 10 1515
Milwaukee Bricks 9 1364
Floor Burns 8 1212
Dribbling Balls 7 1061
Chowtime 6 909
Westy's Ballers 5 758
IAmJabrone 4 606
Sparty Rules 3 455
O.N. Thugs 1.5 227
European Sellout 1.5 227
TOTAL
66 10000

The specific number on each lottery ticket was randomly assigned. I am sending out this master list to all of the UPL owners as a .pdf file that is password protected, and will provide the password to everyone once the lottery is completed. This ensures that no one gets to see the results beforehand, and also that whatever results I report are on the up and up.

The next step is to figure out which number combinations. Obviously, since I'm the only one who knows the list, I can't have anything to do with the number combinations. I will ask Westy, C-Lauff, OD, and Jeff to randomly generate 30 digits (http://www.random.org), and e-mail them to me. The first digit that each one sends will make up the winner of the lottery. Specifically, the first digit will be Westy's number, the 2nd digit will be C-Lauff's number, the 3rd digit will be OD's number, and the 4th digit will be Jeff's number.

We will repeat this process until we have assigned the top three selections of the draft.

In any case, we'll see how this goes, and then figure out if we like the idea of a lottery for all UPL keeper leagues.

Wow, this is very cool. And, after reading it a few times, I understand how it works...

I'm hoping for a 1992 Orlando Magic Draft Result and get the first pick. We'll see what happens...

Well, since most of the superstars are already spoken for in a keeper league, we definitely needed to make things a little more interesting for the Blake Griffin Sweepstakes.

Meanwhile, I wonder if Westy is going to draft Ricky Rubio.

Personally, I wonder if Westy is going to try and draft Len Bias, Reggie Lewis, or Bobby Phills.

And yeah, winning the sweepstakes this year isn't going to be getting a Shaq O'Neal type player, but there should be some more than serviceable players to strengthen one's team.

Can't wait for it to begin.

Not sure about the two former Celts. OD may get to them first. However, according to the latest blog rumors, Westy's eyeing Malik Sealy as his 1st pick in this year's draft.

Is Westy going to come in here and defend himself? Or should I just believe the rumors?

Don't believe the rumors, Greg.

I have a master plan.
